Biblical site where Jesus 'walked on water' discovered after 2,000 years

 Archaeologists have discovered part of the site where the Bible says Jesus “walked on water”.

‘The Sea of Galilee’ is a lake located in northeast Israel, with an ancient fishing village called Capernaum once found on its northern shore.

Bible-readers will know the lake as the centre for Jesus’ ministry after he left Nazareth, where he performed many miracles including calming a violent storm and healing the sick.

Now experts have uncovered part of the port that once connected the biblical town to the lake. Falling water levels have revealed part of the ancient Roman wharf constructed from rows of massive stones and featuring individual berths where fishing vessels could moor.

The Israel Nature and Parks Authority said the find provides an extraordinary window into the seafaring world that Jesus and his fisherman followers would have known and navigated.

Dr. Hagay Dvir, the tourism development manager at the Israel Nature and Parks Authority, said: “For the first time, we can speak of Jesus' maritime activity on the Sea of Galilee, and not only of His works on land.”

While there's no proof Jesus used this specific dock, specialists believe the harbour could have accommodated vessels similar to those mentioned across the New Testament.

The New Testament records that Capernaum witnessed many of Jesus' most celebrated miracles.

The Gospels tell how he expelled a demon from a man within the town's synagogue, then went on to heal Peter's mother-in-law from a high fever and treat masses of ill and tormented individuals brought to him after dark.

Jesus is also said to have restored a paralysed man who was lowered down through the ceiling of a packed dwelling, along with the seriously unwell servant belonging to a Roman centurion.

Matthew's Gospel tells of another miracle where Peter hooked a fish containing a coin in its mouth upon returning to Capernaum, enabling both him and Jesus to settle the temple tax.

The settlement is also intimately linked with Jesus' walk on water. John's Gospel states the disciples were sailing towards Capernaum when they spotted Jesus approaching their boat across the choppy lake.

However the Bible fails to pinpoint the exact location where he walked upon the water or made landfall. Dropping water levels in the Sea of Galilee helped reveal the ancient jetty in November 2025, exposing more of the construction to view.

The discovery is now drawing renewed interest after footage emerged online again, leaving viewers stunned by its link to the biblical era of Jesus.
