New footage shows Trump pocketing Club World Cup medal

US President Donald Trump was spotted pocketing one of Chelsea’s Club World Cup winners’ medals for himself after their 3-0 triumph over Paris Saint-Germain in New Jersey last Sunday.

Trump presented the Blues players with the medals before slipping the last one in his jacket pocket to take back to The White House.

The 79-year-old stood alongside FIFA President Gianni Infantino as he congratulated the likes of Cole Palmer, Enzo Fernandez and Joao Pedro before placing himself front and centre to be involved with the trophy lift.

Chelsea captain Reece James looked confused as he seemingly asked ‘are you staying?’, to which Trump nodded and they all got on with the celebrations.

Before pocketing the medal, Infantino looked ready to take the accolade off Trump but after a short remark he gave the US President a thumbs up which must have meant it was a spare in the end.

The Chelsea stars all seemed a bit bewildered by Trump’s involvement in celebrating their success on the pitch but they did not let it effect their enthusiasm.

After the trophy lift, Reece James told reporters: ‘They told me that he was going to present the trophy and exit the stage. I thought he was going to exit the stage, but he wanted to stay.’

Cole Palmer added that he was left ‘a bit confused’ by Trump’s presence and eagle-eyed viewers seemed to spot him mouthing ‘what’s he doing?’ when the head of the US didn’t budge from the stand.

Trump did eventually leave the Chelsea side to it as he claimed to DAZN reporters that he brought America back from the ‘dead’ and once again took any chance he could get to put down the previous administration.

He did also discuss the sporting aspect of the tournament by saying the Club World Cup was about ‘unity’, ‘everybody getting together’ and ‘a lot of love between countries.’

Trump added: ‘I guess this is probably the most international sport, so it can really bring the world together.’

He also joked about renaming soccer to football in the States.

Many of the Chelsea stars will likely be back in the US next year when the country hosts the 2026 FIFA World Cup, although if some of them do make it all the way again, they may need to be quick in collecting their medals.
