Leny Yoro confirms Man United’s new signing ahead of official announcement: ‘Very good player’
Manchester United are enjoying the usual wave of hope and optimism that comes with pre-season, and Leny Yoro might have let slip a new signing before the club had a chance to make it official.
United started their summer with a goalless draw against Leeds, where Matheus Cunha, Bendito Mantato, and Diego Leon all made positive first impressions.
Other than Ayden Heaven’s strong showing, there wasn’t much to take away from the match, so attention quickly shifted to what’s next on the USA tour schedule.
Before that, Yoro – who also impressed against Leeds – seemed to confirm that United have completed their second signing of the window ahead of any formal announcement.
Leny Yoro speaks out on Bryan Mbeumo’s arrival at Man United
United have made just one signing this summer in Matheus Cunha, with Diego Leon also joining the squad after his deal was finalised back in January.
The club also have an agreement in place for Bryan Mbeumo, who is expected to join the squad for their upcoming tour of the United States.
But with nothing official yet from the club, Yoro’s comments after the Leeds match may have raised a few eyebrows back at Carrington.
Speaking to fans from the Scandinavian Supporters’ Club after the match, Yoro said: “Bryan is a very good player, and I am very happy that he is coming to us. That’s my guy, and I am waiting for him now. It has taken some time, but he is here now.”
Mbeumo’s move looks set to happen soon, but until it does, Yoro talking so openly about a player still contracted to Brentford is not something you see every day.
Yoro could be a good fit for Mbeumo – on and off the pitch
It might seem odd at first, but there’s reason to believe Yoro and Mbeumo could click. Yoro showed plenty against Leeds to back that up.
His ball-playing skills have come a long way since joining United, and his ability to hit those long switches stood out in the match. Mbeumo tends to operate between the striker and right wing, often running into the channels, which lines up well with the kind of passes Yoro likes to play.
It’s a bit like what Victor Lindelof used to do for Marcus Rashford. Mbeumo and Cunha could benefit from those balls out of the back, turning them into quick chances.
On top of that, having another French speaker around should help Mbeumo settle in faster. The on-pitch understanding could develop naturally as a result.
And it’s clear Yoro is looking forward to getting started together.
